Of Men and Angels

This election season, I have been markedly silent about all things politics. Don't get me wrong, I have very strong opinions and beliefs. (If you know me at all, this shouldn't surprise you.) I, instead, chose to listen and not argue. It's amazing what you see when you sit back and read or listen to all of the talk about politics.

People are mean. Plain and simple. Both parties twist the truth to suit their agenda and sadly, the overwhelming majority of the public believe what they hear without question.

The most disappointing of all, is to hear the vile, hateful words that come out of the mouths of people who claim to be Christians.

With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
-James 3:9&10

Can you imagine what America would look like if Christians actually lived like Christ called us to live? If only we would have devoted our time and energy to sharing the love of Christ instead of arguing over politics. Belittling, racist, hateful, and condescending remarks will never win people to Jesus.

If we really want change and progress, we should learn how to chase after Christ instead of just chasing away the things that we think He doesn't like. All of the things we chase don't mean a thing if we don't share the love of Christ.

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal.
-1 Corinthians 13:1

A President will never save America. America's problems are far beyond politics. So please do not put your hope in a President. Pray for him. Ask God to heal our nation.

But please always, always, always remember:

Jesus replied: "'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."
-Matthew 22:37-40
